While it is acknowledged that lottery products present a low risk for problem gambling, NSW Lotteries has implemented a Responsible Play Program, which is designed to encourage responsible gambling. NSW Lotteries' games are available through an extensive network of over 1,900 retailers in NSW and ACT. NSW Lotteries requires commitment from their retailers to providing games in a safe, secure and friendly environment for customers.

The Responsible Play Program has been developed to ensure:

  • compliance with relevant State and Territory legislation
  • best practice in service of lotteries
  • the playing of lotteries is enjoyable for our customers

All NSW Lotteries retailers (including online retailers) and their staff must comply with the requirements of the Have Fun and Play Responsibly Program, in particular, the Tatts Lotteries Responsible Gambling Codes of Conduct – NSW and ACT applicable for each jurisdiction (the Codes), NSW Government Responsible Gambling Regulations and the ACT Gambling and Racing Control (Code of Practice) Regulation 2002

Our retailers display a 'Have Fun and Play Responsibly' sign, which provides information on Gambling Help Services and our Responsible Play Program including information on our financial transaction policy and our Complaint Handling Charter. NSW Lotteries has a Complaint Handling Charter dealing with complaints about the operation of, or compliance with, the Responsible Gambling Codes of Conduct – NSW and ACT. The NSW Government has also developed a Player Information brochure and a Counselling Signage poster for display in lottery outlets and online to provide consumers with odds information and the contact details for counselling services, should they be experiencing problems with gambling. The poster is the "Think! About Your Choices" poster and provides the national gambling helpline telephone number 1800 858 858, website contact details "www.gamblinghelp.nsw.gov.au" and the NSW Government gambling warning message, "Think About Your Choices". On request the Responsible Play Liaison Officers can provide contact details of gambling related support services and remove you from the Player's Card program by deactivating your card and or stop promotional letters from being personally mailed to you.
